Bio
Yanga Ntshakaza, better known as Yanga Chief, is a South African artist whose music blends hip-hop, Afropop, kwaito, and traditional Xhosa sounds. Born in Mthatha and raised in Queenstown, he moved to Johannesburg to study Audio-Visual Production. He began his career directing music videos, which shaped his strong sense of visual storytelling, before stepping into the spotlight as a performer. Yanga Chief gained early recognition with his contribution to AKA and K.O.’s “Run Jozi.” His acclaimed projects include Becoming a Pop Star, Pop Star, and Lord Faku – The Life of a Dyan. He won Song of the Year at the South African Hip Hop Awards for Utatakho and Best Hip Hop Album at the SAMAs for Becoming a Pop Star. Known for emotional tracks like Mbali Yam, he continues to captivate audiences with music that is deeply personal, culturally rooted, and sonically inventive.
