BioJonas Gwangwa (born Jonas Mosa Gwangwa) played a significant role in South African jazz history. Together with jazz pianist Abdullah Ibrahim (then known as Dollar Brand), he was a member of the Jazz Epistles, the first black South African band to release an album. Gwangwa rose to prominence as a composer. In 1997, he composed the theme music for South Africa's Olympic bid as well as scores for films such as Cry Freedom, Generations, and Othello.
