Bio
Thandeka Nontobeko Ngema, professionally known as MaWhoo, is a South African singer-songwriter and model who has risen as a leading voice in Amapiano and Afro-pop. Born in 1994 in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal, she discovered her passion for music at 11, though early attempts were dismissed due to her age. This setback led her to modeling, working with brands like Tribe Afrique and House of Supreme, while honing her musical craft. MaWhoo’s breakthrough came in 2019 with “Umshado,” a collaboration with Heavy-K that earned over a million YouTube views, establishing her soulful presence in South African music. She has since collaborated with Amapiano stars DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, and Master KG and released acclaimed projects including "What A Time To Be Alive" (2022), "The Chosen" (2023), and "Amazwi Okubonga" (2025). Beyond music, she advocates against gender-based violence, and her BET Viewer’s Choice nomination highlights her journey from a young dreamer to a resilient cultural icon.
