Raised in a musically inclined family with a jeli heritage, she chose to be a Wassoulou artist like her idols Oumou Sangare and Sali Sidibe. Kokanko's musical journey began at 10, performing at local weddings with the calabash. Later, she embraced the kamele ngoni, defying tradition, and excelled in playing it.
In 2000, she gained international recognition after featuring in Damon Albarn's "Mali Music. She toured Europe and released several albums, captivating audiences worldwide with her cultural expressions and captivating voice. Her mastery of the kamele ngoni cemented her status as a highly regarded Wassoulou artist, continuing her family's musical legacy.
