Born under Nigeria's post-colonial sun, Eric Kol's musical journey mirrored the nation's vibrant spirit. He started out belting covers in the soulful 60s, then birthed The Soul Kings in the 70s, crafting original tunes pulsating with funk and groove. But it was 1981's "Today" that cemented his legacy. This disco masterpiece, a hypnotic blend of Western influences and traditional rhythms, captured the infectious optimism of a Nigeria on the move. Mabuse was raised in Soweto. His father was Tswana, while his mother was Zulu. Solly Nkuta used to be Sipho and his band's manager. Mabuse began performing with the Afro-soul group the Beaters in the middle of the 1970s after quitting school in the 1960s. They altered the name of the group to Harari, an afrosoul band lead by Mabuse, following a successful tour of Zimbabwe. When they moved back to South Africa, they started to rely almost entirely on American-style funk, soul, and pop songs that were sung in Zulu and Sotho in addition to English. Along with these artists, he has also produced and recorded music for Sibongile Khumalo,Hugh Masekela, and Miriam Makeba. He still gives regular performances.

Nkem Okonkwo, better known as Jake Sollo, was a talented Nigerian rhythm guitarist and record producer who made a lasting impact on the music scene throughout the 1960s and 1980s. His musical journey started with The Hykkers amidst the Biafran civil war, and he later rose to prominence with The Funkees, achieving acclaim in Nigeria and England. However, creative tensions led to The Funkees' disbandment in 1976, followed by a brief stint with Osibisa before financial disagreements prompted his departure in 1977. Sollo's career flourished in London as a session musician and producer before he returned to Nigeria, where he became highly sought-after by major record labels. Tragically, his promising career was cut short by a fatal car accident in 1985.

West Nkosi was a multi-talented figure in the South African music scene, serving as a music producer, saxophonist, recording artist, composer, and songwriter. He was also a member of the Makgona Tsohle Band, providing musical support for Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens. West Nkosi played a role in producing all international releases for the two bands between 1986 and 1991. Early in his music career, West Nkosi played the penny whistle, a lead instrument in South African pop style. Later, he transitioned to the alto saxophone. He played a significant role in shaping the Sax Jive and Mbaqanga styles, earning recognition as one of the influential figures who brought South African music to the global stage.

Dorothy Masuku, also known as Mam Dorothy, was a distinguished South African jazz musician and activist, born in Zimbabwe. Her powerful performances established her as a prominent figure in the music industry during the tumultuous era of apartheid and political unrest in South Africa. She fearlessly addressed the injustices of apartheid through her music, and her iconic song "Hamba Hamba Nontsokolo" became a symbol of resistance. Her outstanding contributions to music and activism were widely recognized, earning her numerous accolades, including her induction into the Afropop Hall of Fame in New York in 2002.
