Awilo Longomba, born Albert William Louis Longomba in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, is a Congolese singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and former drummer whose career has helped carry Soukous and Ndombolo to audiences worldwide. The son of Congolese rumba pioneer Vicky Longomba, he began as a drummer with groups including Stukas, Viva La Musica, Loketo, and Nouvelle Génération before launching his solo career in 1995 with "Moto Pamba."
His international breakthrough came with "Coupé Bibamba" in 1998, whose title track, featuring Jocelyne Béroard, became a major African and international hit. The album established his guitar-driven, dance-oriented approach and expanded his audience across Africa, Europe and the Americas.
Longomba followed with albums including "Kafou Kafou" (2000), "Mondongo" (2003) and "Super-Man" (2008), while collaborating with artists across generations and regions. His catalogue and performances have made him an enduring representative of Congolese popular music and African dance music.
