Bio
Babes Wodumo, born Bongekile Mildred Simelane, is a South African singer, songwriter, dancer, choreographer, and television personality whose dynamic performances helped propel gqom from Durban's underground scene to global recognition. Widely known as the "Queen of Gqom," she rose to prominence with the breakout hit "Wololo," establishing herself as one of South Africa's defining contemporary artists. After launching her recording career with "Desha" in 2014 and signing to West Ink Records, she released the acclaimed album "Gqom Queen, Vol. 1," followed by "Idando Kazi." Her catalogue includes "Umngan Wami," "Mercedes," "Ka Dazz," "eLamont," and "Otshwaleni," while collaborations with Mampintsha, Distruction Boyz, Major Lazer, TNS, Skillz, and Kendrick Lamar expanded her international reach. Following Mampintsha's passing in 2022, Babes Wodumo has continued performing and releasing music, remaining committed to preserving gqom's legacy while contributing to South Africa's vibrant dance music scene.
