Carlos Ward is a Panamanian-American alto saxophonist and flutist who is a master of both funk and jazz. After starting his career in the early 1960s playing with jazz musicians, he joined the funk band BT Express in 1972 and recorded several hit singles with them. In 1975, he left BT Express to focus on his jazz career, and he has since recorded and performed with many of the leading names in jazz. His career has spanned various jazz styles, from avant-garde to traditional. Ward is a highly respected musician known for his improvisational skills, melodic sense, and soulful playing. He is still active as a performer and recording artist, and he is also a dedicated educator.
