Cheb Mami, born Mohamed Khelifati, is an Algerian singer, songwriter, and one of the most important rai musicians, who took the genre international. Cheb Mami's career kicked off with him performing at local weddings. Coming second on a radio talent show in 1982, helped introduce him to producers and kickstart his career professionally. Cheb Mami has gone on to shape rai music and release an outstanding discography over the span of a 40 year career.
