Kaiga Mutundu, better known as Chris Kaiga and affectionately called Mr Zimenice, is a Kenyan rapper, producer, and songwriter who created “Debe,” a genre that mixes hip-hop, dance, and Afro beats to reflect Nairobi’s urban culture. Raised in Lang’ata, he began making music in 2009 as a beatmaker and member of local groups, including “Usual Suspekts,” “SLAP,” and “KHM,” before launching his solo career in 2018.
Kaiga gained recognition with the 2019 hit “Zimenice,” and followed up with songs like “Chain Chain” and “Kameshika Signal.” His debut album, “Adventures of Chris Kaiga" (2022), marked a milestone in his career. As co-founder of Up n Up Records, he also mentors emerging artists.
His work earned him Best New Artist at the 2019 Pulse Music Video Awards and multiple nominations for visual direction and choreography, confirming his influence on contemporary music in East Africa.
