Mthokozisi Khathi, professionally known as DJ Tira, is a titan of the South African music industry. Born in 1976 in KwaZulu-Natal, he transformed from a university student into the "King of Durban’s" nightlife. As the founder of Afrotainment, Tira is credited with the commercial explosion of Gqom and Durban Kwaito.
His career gained momentum after winning the Smirnoff DJ Knockout in 2000, leading to the formation of the duo Durban’s Finest. Tira is a master collaborator, frequently releasing anthems like "Sikilidi" and "Nguwe."
Beyond the DJ booth, he is a savvy entrepreneur behind the massive "Fact Durban Rocks" festival and his own beverage line, "Makoya Bearings Cyder." Whether he is mentoring new talent like the Q Twins or dropping hits like "Malume," Tira remains a central pillar of African dance music, blending a relentless work ethic with an uncanny ability to define the cultural zeitgeist.
