Eugene Mthethwa, known by his stage name Donald Duck, is a South African kwaito musician, songwriter, and politician born on 5 October 1967 in Soweto. He rose to prominence as a founding member of the iconic kwaito group Trompies, alongside Mandla “Spikiri” Mofokeng, Jairus “Jakarumba” Nkwe, Zynne “Mahoota” Sibika, and the late Emmanuel “Mjokes” Matsane. Before fame, Mthethwa played keyboards for artists such as Lucky Dube and Casino. With Trompies, he helped define 1990s South African urban music, earning multiple awards and acclaim for albums like Delicious. In 2021, he released his solo comeback project Let Dogs Lie Low. Beyond music, Mthethwa is an activist for artists’ rights and a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). He served in the National Assembly of South Africa (2023–2024), championing arts and culture reform. He is married to Lindelwa Mthethwa and continues to inspire through music and advocacy.
