BioChief Olufela Obafunmilayo Sowande, professionally known as Fela Sowande, was a renowned Nigerian musician, composer, and scholar who is considered the father of modern Nigerian art music.
Sowande was the most internationally recognized African composer of works in the European "Classical" Idioms.
His works included Organ works such as Yoruba Lament, Obangiji, Jesu Olugbala, and orchestral works such as six sketches for Full Orchestral, amongst others.
He also wrote a significant amount of secular and sacred choral music, mainly a cappella.
