BioGugu Shezi is a Durban-born singer, songwriter, and theatre actress who began her musical journey at the age of 5, honing her craft in church, school choirs, and community groups. In 2000, she entered the inaugural season of "Idols," propelling her to national recognition. She showcased her versatility by gracing the stage of the Market Theatre production "Songs of Migration" alongside icons like Hugh Masekela and Sibongile Khumalo. Her 2006 debut album, "Gugulam," received SAMA and Metro Award nominations in the best R&B/soul album and best female vocalist categories. In 2016, she signed with Boom Studio, releasing "Umoya," a compelling blend of Afro-soul and urban Zulu pop, further enriching her impressive musical legacy.
