Bio
Hachalu Hundessa was a renowned Ethiopian singer, songwriter, and cultural icon who discovered his musical passion at a tender age, engaging in school club performances. His debut album, "Sanyii Mootii," released in 2009, propelled him to the limelight. Amidst the 2015–2018 Oromo protests, Hundessa's music emerged as the anthem of resistance against Ethiopia's authoritarian regime, earning him the moniker of the indisputable king of contemporary Oromo protest music. His compositions fearlessly delved into political and contentious subjects, yet they resonated with poignant themes of injustice, oppression, and hope. Hundessa's melodies served as a unifying force for the Oromo community, providing them with a potent voice. Tragically, his life was cut short by assassination in 2020, but his enduring legacy continues.
