Hadija Namale, born in 1947 in Mpigi District, Uganda, emerged as a musical pioneer in the 1960s after overcoming early challenges, including a polygamous marriage at 13. Inspired by her brother Yusuf, she first performed in Bunia before returning to Kampala to sing with bands like Suzana, Top Ten, and Rwenzori. Her hit single “Zoozo” sold over 100,000 copies, and “Mukulike Omwaka” became a New Year classic. A multi‑lingual Afrobeat artist hailed as the “queen of melody,” she later focused on farming, herbal medicine, hairdressing, and marriage counselling, while mentoring her daughter.
