Bio
Indi Jimi, also known as Jimi Indi Phiri, is a Zimbabwean-born musician, vocalist, and bassist known for his steady, expressive style and his contributions to Southern African jazz and roots music. He first gained recognition as a member of Musik ye Afrika, performing alongside guitarist Louis Mhlanga and drummer Jethro Shasha. Together they created a distinctive blend of Zimbabwean rhythms, jazz influences, and modern African grooves, with Indi’s bass playing forming the rhythmic core of their sound. Beyond the group, Indi developed his own solo work, most notably through his album Pleasure, where he explored themes of love, reflection, and personal growth. His solo songs highlight his thoughtful approach to composition and his warm vocal presence. Indi has continued to collaborate with artists such as Louis Mhlanga, contributing to projects that reconnect with him, he remains respected for his musicianship, sensitivity, and lasting impact on the regional music scene.
