Irene Namatovu (born 1987) is a celebrated Ugandan Afro-pop singer and cultural ambassador from Masaka. Initially aspiring to study law, she embraced music in her early twenties, later marrying fellow artist Geoffrey Lutaaya. Her 2018 hit “Nsambila Nyuma Nga Janzi” won an AFRIMA award, marking her international breakthrough. Irene blends Luganda and Swahili lyrics with traditional rhythms to celebrate Ugandan heritage. She’s known for cultural anthems like “Okuzaala Kujagaana” and “Shika Dance Pole Pole.” Beyond music, Irene promotes family values and traditional dance. A 2023 honorary certificate recognized her artistic impact, reinforcing her role as a leading voice in East African music.
