Queen "Iyaya" Sesoko rose to prominence during South Africa’s kwaito boom of the late 1990s as a member of Abashante. Her success with the group helped increase the visibility of female performers in a genre largely dominated by men, making her one of the more recognizable women in kwaito during that period.
After her time with Abashante, she launched a solo career and released projects including *Queen Ufikile*, working to establish her identity beyond the group. Her career also attracted media attention through industry disputes and her high-profile relationship with Arthur Mafokate, with whom she shares a daughter, Owami Mafokate.
Following several years away from major music activity, Sesoko underwent a spiritual transformation and dedicated herself to Christianity. She later returned as a gospel artist, releasing faith-based music and ministering through song. Her career reflects a journey from kwaito stardom to a life centered on gospel music and faith.
