Bio
Jean Bikoko Aladin, born around 1939 near Eséka, Cameroon, is revered as the "King of Assiko" and a pivotal figure in Cameroonian music. He began his musical journey as a teenager, mastering the guitar with improvised instruments. In the 1960s, Aladin modernized the Assiko genre, fusing traditional Bassa rhythms with innovative guitar techniques, and recorded over 75 singles. His engaging performances transformed Assiko shows by introducing new dance styles and unique percussion techniques using glass bottles. Aladin signed his first recording contract with Africambiance in 1959, leading to a prolific career that included performances across Europe. He passed away on July 22, 2010, but his vibrant legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists in the Assiko tradition.
