Bio
Joseph Mayanja, professionally known as Jose Chameleone, is a Ugandan singer, songwriter, record producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist whose career has shaped contemporary East African music. Born in Kampala, he performs in Luganda, English, and Swahili, combining Afrobeats, reggae, dancehall, zouk, and Central African rumba. He began as a DJ in Kampala before relocating to Nairobi, where joining Ogopa Deejays and collaborating with Redsan on "Bageya" launched his regional career. Chameleone has released numerous successful albums and hit singles, including "Jamila," "Valu Valu," "Kipepeo," and "Badilisha," while collaborating with artists such as Beenie Man, Davido, Koffi Olomidé, and Professor Jay. He founded "Leone Island Records," helping develop several Ugandan artists. His honours include multiple Pearl of Africa Music Awards, Tanzania Music Awards, Kisima Music Awards, the 2015 AFRIMA Songwriter of the Year award, and the 2018 Galaxy Zzina Legend Award. His philanthropy and sustained commercial success have established him among Africa's most accomplished recording artists.
