A rebellious guitar spirit and a voice that refuses to stay quiet helped shape the career of Karen Zoid, widely regarded as one of South Africa’s defining rock figures. Born Karen Louise Greeff in Brussels, Belgium, and raised in Johannesburg, she built a career as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, composer, and television personality.
Her breakthrough arrived in 2001 with "Poles Apart," which earned Rock Album of the Year at the South African Music Awards and reached Gold status. She followed with albums such as Chasing the Sun and Postmodern World, the latter winning Best Female Solo Artist at the 2008 SAMAs. Her work has also received recognition at the Geraas Awards.
Beyond music, her television show Republiek van Zoid Afrika won a South African Film and Television Awards. She has shared stages with Annie Lennox, John Mayer, and Metallica, reinforcing her lasting impact on South African music.
