Okatch BiggyKenya |1954| EnglishElly Mathayo Okatch, known by his moniker Okatch Biggy, was a musician who specialized in Benga music. Hailing from Nyanza, Kenya, Okatch tried getting into boxing as a career when he was just 21 at the Railways Club in Kisumu. In 1992, his first album, Helena Wang’e Dongo, was released, bringing him into the limelight.
Beyond his solo career, Biggy gained further stardom by establishing the renowned Kenyan band Super Heka Heka.
At the time of his death on December 18, 1997, he and his Super Heka Heka Band had amassed an impressive discography of five albums.
Additionally, Biggy nurtured young, aspiring artists such as Aluoch Jamaranda, Dolla Kabari, Oginga Wuod Awasi, Jerry Jalamo, Ogonji Jaimbo, and Otieno Small, among others.
