Bio
Ngare Mukiria, known professionally as Kiria, is a Nairobi-born singer, songwriter, guitarist, and storyteller whose music blends elements of reggae, jazz, blues, pop, soul, and funk. His musical journey began in secondary school with drums and dance, later evolving into songwriting and guitar mastery, before being refined at the Brookhouse School of Performing Arts and Sauti Academy. Kiria has performed with bands such as Yellow Light Machine and The Dagoz Nomads Blues Band, including a successful 2022 tour of Tanzania, before fully embracing his solo career. Rooted in his Buddhist background, the name “Kiria” means “be silent” in Kikuyu, reflecting his spiritual philosophy of mindfulness and detachment from mental clutter, a theme often woven into his music. Nicknamed “The Storyteller,” Kiria enhances his shows by sharing the personal stories behind his songs, forging deep connections with his audiences.
