Laurika Rauch is a South African vocalist and songwriter widely regarded for her long-standing contribution to Afrikaans music and interpretive performance.
She is known for emotionally detailed interpretation, literary lyricism, and refined delivery, with a catalogue spanning folk, cabaret, luisterlied, and pop.
She studied piano from childhood and later completed drama studies at the University of Stellenbosch in 1972. Before her recording career, she worked in theatre and educational productions, including PACT Playwork (1975–1976).
She gained national recognition in 1979 with “Kinders van die Wind,” written by Koos du Plessis, which became a landmark Afrikaans recording and received wide broadcast exposure.
Her career includes cabaret work, international touring, and theatre collaborations, including Jacques Brel interpretations and politically reflective stage productions.
She has also worked closely with Christopher Torr on songs such as “Op Blouberg se Strand,” “Stuur Groete aan Mannetjies Roux,” and “Hot Gates.”
She received honours, including the SAMA award and the Order of Ikhamanga.
