Mandisa Nomzamo Dlanga is a legendary South African vocalist whose extraordinary talents helped shape the sonic landscape of the country's music history. Born in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape, she relocated to Johannesburg, where she refined her theatrical, dance, and vocal instincts under the strict mentorship of legendary playwright Gibson Kente.
During the early 1980s, she achieved widespread national acclaim as an integral member of the popular music trio Jaws.
Dlanga rapidly transitioned into South Africa's premier session vocalist, lending her pristine vocal harmonies to definitive anthems for icons like Brenda Fassie, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, and Stimela. Her reputation expanded globally, resulting in collaborations with Paul Simon and Simply Red. Most notably, she became Johnny Clegg’s longest-serving backing vocalist across Savuka and his solo ensembles.
In 2023, she marked her 70th birthday by finally stepping out solo, releasing her debut studio album, “Siyakha.”
