Maurice Kirya is an Ugandan singer, songwriter, guitarist, actor, filmmaker, entrepreneur, and humanitarian whose career spans more than two decades. Born in Jinja and raised in Kampala, he created Mwooyo, a style combining Ugandan folk traditions with soul, jazz, R&B, and contemporary African music.
Since launching his career in 2003, he has released albums including "Misubbaawa," "The Book of Kirya," "Mwooyo," "Free Dreams," "Beyond Myself," "The Road to Kirya," and "Maurice Kirya Live in Kampala, Uganda." He has collaborated with NE-YO, Mark Forster, and Maro, performing in over 35 countries.
In 2010, he won the Radio France Internationale (RFI) Discoveries Award, later receiving E-World Music Awards honours and appearing at SXSW. His acting credits include "The Last King of Scotland," "Queen of Katwe," and "The Girl in the Yellow Jumper."
He also founded The Maurice Kirya Foundation, leads several businesses, and hosts the annual KiryaLive festival.
