Mimi Coertse was a South African soprano recognised for her lovely voice and diverse repertoire. She was born in Cape Town and began studying music at the age of ten. She made her professional debut at the Cape Town Opera in 1954. She immediately established herself as one of South Africa's finest sopranos. In 1962, she performed at the Salzburg Festival, and in 1964, she performed at the Bayreuth Festival. She also performed at New York's Metropolitan Opera, London's Royal Opera House, and Vienna's State Opera. Mimi was also inducted as a living legend at the South African Legends Museum on January 26, 2020.
