Mory Kanté was a legendary Guinean singer-songwriter and musician from a family of griots. He led Super Rail, a prominent Malian band in the 70s. Kanté's hit song "Yéké Yéké" (1990) reached No. 1 in multiple European countries, popularizing African music worldwide. He was also a skilled kora player and collaborated with musicians such as Carlos Santana and Peter Gabriel. Kanté died in 2020 at age 70, leaving a legacy as a trailblazer of West African music and a global ambassador of African culture.
