Onyeka Onwenu (aka Elegant Stallion,) was a multi-award-winning Nigerian singer-songwriter, actress, social activist, and public administrator. Beginning her music career in the 1970s, she gained fame with hits like "You and I" and "One Love." Onyeka also starred in several Nollywood blockbusters including "Half of a Yellow Sun," and "Lion Heart" showcasing her versatile talent. Beyond entertainment, she was a strong advocate for women's rights, social justice, and democracy, serving on the Nigerian National Merit Award board. Her unexpected death in July 2024 left many saddened, with the cause remaining largely unknown. Onyeka's legacy as an artist and dedicated activist will undoubtedly continue to inspire and resonate across Nigeria and beyond.
