Papa Wemba, also crowned "King of Rumba Rock, was a Congolese artist and band leader whose music genres were Congolese rumba, ndombolo, and soukous. He was also the proponent of the fashion style and look, known as Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes d‘Élégance (SAPE). On April 24, 2016 at the FEMUA urban music festival in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, Papa Wemba collapsed on stage and the medical team wasn't able to resuscitate him. He died at age 66.

    Théodore Dindo Mabeli, popularly known as Dindo Yogo, was a Congolese musician who was known for his smooth and infectious sound. He began his music career as a guitarist in various local bands. In 1978, Dindo Yogo joined Papa Wemba's band, Viva La Musica, where he quickly gained fame for his soulful voice and guitar skills. He left in 1981 alongside guitarists Popolipo Zanguila, Djuna Djanana, and Kisangani Djenga. They teamed up with the trio of Evoloko Jocker, Djo Mali, and Bozi Boziana to form the Langa Langa Stars. Dindo Yogo's music tackled issues such as corruption, poverty, and injustice in Congolese society. Dindo sadly passed away in 2000 at the age of 37.

    Jean 'Johnny' Bokelo Isenge was a gifted Congolese musician and the younger brother of Paul 'Dewayon' Isengo. He joined his brother's band, Watam, at age twelve, learning guitar alongside a young Franco in 1950. Bokelo later formed his own group, Orchestre Conga Succès, in 1958, known for its edgier sound. Despite parting ways with his brother in 1962, Bokelo continued to lead Conga Succès, refining their sound and addressing societal concerns through his 'Mwambe' recordings. He faced challenges with his label and pressed records in Kenya due to issues with the Belgian company Fonior.
