Bio
Prince Jjuuko Mawanda was a Ugandan musician, teacher, and Buganda royal known for his gospel-pop songs rich in cultural and social themes. Born in Rakai, he began in church choirs before forming the Remnant Gospel Singers in 1993 and later transitioning to pop with the Uphill Top Band. His breakout album "Ebyensi Mpewo" sold 70,000 copies in three months, cementing his influence. Singing in Luganda, he released heartfelt, acoustic albums like "Women’s Freedom," "Sirutalo," and "Essaawa Ewedde Yo." In 2000, he publicly disclosed his HIV-positive status during a Nakivubo Stadium concert and launched an AIDS-awareness campaign. His final project, "Tulisisinkana Ewa Mukama," reflected his spiritual convictions. Sadly, Jjuuko died in 2001 at age 32, but is remembered for his moral messaging, cultural pride, and fearless advocacy.
