Proud Refuge, born Zachary Mwangi, is a Kenyan-American singer-songwriter, rapper, and producer based in Sacramento. His musical journey began in 2007 when he recorded his single, "Ghetto to Palace," with Home Boyz Records. At 16, gospel-reggae pioneer Rufftone recognized his talent, giving him a platform to grow. In 2015, after dedicating his life to God, he changed his stage name from "Pesa" to Proud Refuge. The following year, his debut single "Sold Out" gained attention on Rapzilla and topped Kenyan charts.
In 2017, he launched "Mountain Movers Club," a movement focused on raising awareness about youth suicide and drug abuse. Known for singing Christian rap, Afrobeats, and hip-hop, his music explores themes of faith, resilience, and identity, which has earned him millions of streams and a loyal international following.
