Refentse Morake, known simply as Refentse, is a South African singer and songwriter in Vereeniging. He rose to national stardom in 2015 at age 17 after a video of him busking on a pavement went viral. His authentic delivery of Afrikaans classics like "Lisa se Klavier" and "De la Rey" caught the attention of rock icon Karen Zoid, who invited him to perform at the KKNK festival, leading to a professional recording contract. His debut album, My Hart Bly in ’n Taal (2016), achieved double platinum status and won four Ghoema Awards, including Male Artist of the Year. Refentse is celebrated for bridging cultural divides by bringing a fresh "African flavor" to the Afrikaans pop and folk genres. His discography includes successful albums like Deur My Venster and Liefdegenerasie. Today, he remains a symbol of inclusivity and generational change in South African music.
