Divine Joshua Ikubor, known professionally as Rema, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and rapper born on May 1, 2000, in Benin City, Edo State. After losing his father and brother early in life, he turned to music as a creative outlet, rapping and singing in local churches and high school groups.
In 2018, his viral freestyle on Instagram caught the attention of record executive D'Prince, leading to a record deal with Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records. Rema debuted in 2019 with his self-titled EP, driven by the breakout single "Dumebi."
Coining his signature style as "Afrorave" a fusion of Afrobeats, Arabian vocal melodies, and trap production. Rema achieved massive international acclaim with his 2022 hit "Calm Down." The remix featuring Selena Gomez smashed records on global charts, cementing Rema as a leading pioneer of modern African pop.
