Michael Adebayo Olayinka, better known to the world as Ruger, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter from Lagos whose unique music blends Afrobeats, dancehall, Afropop, R&B, and Brazilian funk. His early musical foundation developed through school performances, church choir activities, student bands, and initial songwriting. Ruger gained prominent attention after his online freestyles reached music executive D’Prince, leading to his 2021 signing with Jonzing World alongside Sony Music Entertainment UK and Columbia Records.
His debut EP, Pandemic, spawned the breakthrough single “Bounce,” propelling him into wider national and global recognition. Subsequent releases like The Second Wave produced major hit tracks including “Dior” and “Asiwaju.”
In 2023, Ruger released his debut album, RU The World, and earned the Soundcity MVP Award for Best New Artiste.
After collaborating with BNXN on RnB in 2024, he established Blown Boy Entertainment and dropped BlownBoy RU in 2025, reinforcing his artistic vision, international profile, and personal creative direction.
