If jazz ever decided to speak fluent Yoruba, it would sound a lot like Salako. Born Ahmed Tosin Salako, mononymously known as Salako, is a Nigerian Afro-jazz singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who turns culture into sound. Rooted in Southwest Nigeria, his music fuses Yoruba rhythms with jazz, funk, and modern influences, delivered through a soulful voice and three-octave range. Influenced by Michael Jackson, he studied music formally and began as a straight-ahead jazz artist.
As lead vocalist of Salako and the Afrocollectives, he has performed across Nigeria and internationally, connecting with audiences through live instrumentation featuring talking drum and shekere. His releases include the self-titled single “Salako” (2021), the EP "3 Fathers, 1 Child" (2022), “Money Is Calling” (2023), and “Wande” (2025). Offstage, he founded the Abuja International Afro-jazz Festival and was named the Future of Jazz in Nigeria during International Jazz Day (2022).
