Segun Bucknor was a Nigerian Afrobeat keyboardist, guitarist, vocalist, composer, bandleader, and journalist. He was educated at King's College and started his music career in 1964 as a member of the Hot Four band. After returning from the US, he became the leader of Segun Bucknor and the Assembly, which gradually migrated to afrobeat style. Bucknor's music was politically charged and addressed social issues. He died in Lagos in 2017 at the age of 71.
