Sery Simplice is a popular Ivorian vocalist and guitarist known for modernizing traditional roots music, particularly the gbegbe and ziglibithy music styles. He began his career by touring and performing traditional songs on a homemade guitar. He formed his own band, Les Freres Djatys, in 1978, and by 1983, he had amassed a significant fan base and was crowned the King of Gbegbe Music on national television.
