Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., known professionally as Shatta Wale, is a Ghanaian musician, composer, actor, entrepreneur, and CEO of the Shatta Movement Empire. Born in Accra, Ghana, he first gained attention under the stage name Bandana with “Moko Hoo” before achieving major success as Shatta Wale through “Dancehall King.” His music spans dancehall, genge, rap, trap, afrobeats, and alte influences.
Since 2016 he has released songs including “Missed Call,” “3TU Black Nim Koor,” “Alright,” “We Gi Dem,” and “Ice Cream Shop.” He gained international recognition through collaborations such as “Already” with Beyoncé and Major Lazer, as well as projects with John Legend and Tinny.
Shatta Wale has received numerous honors, including Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards and Best African Reggae/Dancehall Artist at AFRIMMA. Through music, business, and entertainment leadership, he has become one of Ghana’s most influential contemporary artists.
