Tiken Jah Fakoly, born Doumbia Moussa Fakoly on June 23, 1968, in Odienné, Côte d'Ivoire, is an internationally acclaimed reggae singer, songwriter, and activist. He is widely recognized as a foundational figure in modern African roots reggae, utilizing his platform to address political corruption, social injustice, and neo-colonialism.
He began his musical career in 1987 by founding the group Djelys before transitioning into a highly successful solo career.
Due to the politically charged nature of his lyrics, which directly challenged state leadership, Fakoly faced severe security threats and was forced into exile in Bamako, Mali, in 2003. Despite this displacement, he expanded his global footprint, releasing gold-certified albums such as "Françafrique" and winning a Victoires de la Musique award.
Beyond music, he is a dedicated humanitarian, funding the construction of primary schools across West Africa through his "One Concert, One School" initiative.
