As a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, U-God helped shape one of hip-hop’s most influential groups and contributed to albums that achieved worldwide recognition and Grammy nominations. Born Lamont Jody Hawkins in Brooklyn, New York, and raised primarily in Staten Island, he became known for his deep, commanding voice and distinctive delivery.
U-God gained major attention through the Wu-Tang Clan’s landmark debut “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” in 1993, appearing on classics such as “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’,” “Protect Ya Neck,” and “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta F’ Wit.” He launched his solo career with “Golden Arms Redemption” in 1999 and later released “Mr. Xcitement,” “Dopium,” “The Keynote Speaker,” and “Venom.” He has collaborated extensively with Inspectah Deck, Method Man, and Raekwon and remains active through performances, touring, publishing, and hip-hop projects.
