Vita Chirwa is a renowned Malawian musician, bandleader, and cultural custodian. Born in Mzimba and based in Lilongwe, he was mentored by his late uncle, Griffin Mhango, co-founder of Kalimba Band. After Griffin’s passing in 1996, Vita assumed leadership of the band, preserving its legacy while evolving its sound. His solo discography, from "Eruption" (1998) to "Kwanu Nkwanu" (2014), showcases his versatility and emotional depth, while Kalimba’s releases, including *Moto Moto* (2016) and 2023’s “Amwene” and “Aise,” sustain their relevance. As President of the Musicians Union of Malawi, Vita champions artist rights and industry growth. He celebrated Kalimba’s 40th anniversary in 2023 with a historical book launch and led the 2025 global release of "Past and Present" under Virgin Music/Sony. With tours across southern Africa and the UK, Vita remains a pivotal figure in shaping and sharing Malawi’s musical identity on the global stage.
