Bio
Worsie Visser, born Hermias Cornelis Visser in Vredendal, South Africa, was a popular Afrikaans singer and songwriter. He grew up in a farming community where he developed an early interest in music and performance. After completing school in 1980, he first trained as a teacher and later served in the South African Police Service before leaving to pursue music full-time. Visser rose to fame in the late 1980s with his debut album Dis my kontrei, which introduced his energetic and local dance-style sound. He became well known for songs like “Boesmanland,” “Lekker ou Jan,” and “Strandfontein,” which reflected rural life and everyday humor. His music was especially popular at community events and gatherings across South Africa. Although not always supported by mainstream radio, he built a strong fan base. Worsie Visser tragically died in a plane crash in 1998, but his music remains influential in Afrikaans culture.
