BioYacub Addy, a prominent Ghanaian drummer and master of African music, was born into a family of musicians and trained in traditional rhythms and dances from an early age.
He was an advocate for the preservation and promotion of African culture and founded the ensemble Odadaa! in 1994, a fusion of traditional Ghanaian rhythms and contemporary jazz.
Addy received many awards for his contributions to the arts, including the National Heritage Fellowship and the Order of the Volta.
He also taught music at universities and schools in the United States, and was a professor at the University of Ghana.
Addy passed away in 2018, leaving behind a profound impact on the world of music and culture.
