Yemi Eberechi Alade, professionally known as Yemi Alade, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and performer whose career has helped expand contemporary African pop internationally. Born in Abia State in 1989, she grew up in different parts of Nigeria and studied Geography at the University of Lagos. She gained early recognition after winning the Peak Talent Show in 2009.
After joining Effyzzie Music Group, Alade released “Fimisile” before achieving her breakthrough with “Johnny” in 2013. The song became a major African hit and paved the way for her debut album, “King of Queens,” in 2014. She followed it with projects including “Mama Africa,” “Black Magic,” “Woman of Steel,” and “Empress,” while collaborations with Angélique Kidjo, Beyoncé, and other international artists broadened her reach.
In 2020, Alade became a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, supporting campaigns around gender equality and development. Her 2025 Grammy nomination for “Tomorrow” further marked her growing international recognition.
