Yvonne Chaka Chaka, born Yvonne Machaka in 1965 in Soweto, is a legendary South African singer and humanitarian known as “Princess of Africa." Rising from the challenges of life under Apartheid, she made history in 1981 as the first Black child to appear on South African television. Her professional music career launched in 1984, where she became a pioneer of "Bubblegum Disco" with massive hits like "I’m in Love with a DJ" and the global anthem "Umqombothi."
Beyond her musical accolades, Chaka Chaka is a tireless advocate for global health and education. She serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and the Roll Back Malaria Partnership, using her platform to fight poverty and disease across the continent.
