BioThe Bala Brothers and Broers represent a masterclass in South African cross-cultural collaboration. The Bala trio comprising siblings Zwai, Loyiso, and Phelo who hail from a rich musical lineage in the Eastern Cape. They rose to prominence by blending their classical training with African soul, creating a "Pop-era" sound that eventually gained global recognition through a PBS special.
Their counterparts, Broers, consist of the Snyman brothers (Christo, Cobus, and Stephan), who are celebrated fixtures in the Afrikaans contemporary and country genres.
The two groups found common ground through their shared identity as brothers and their incredible vocal range. Their collaboration became a cultural landmark, specifically through projects like "10,000 Myl." By performing anthems such as "The Way Old Friends Do" and "Shosholoza" together, they merged Xhosa and Afrikaans traditions. This partnership did more than just top charts; it acted as a musical bridge, fostering unity across South Africa's diverse social landscape.
