BioBlack Motion is a South African Afro-house collective formed in Soshanguve, Gauteng, in 2010 by percussionist Thabo Roy Mabogwane (Smol) and producer/DJ Bongani Mohosana. The group became known for blending live African percussion, spiritual themes, and electronic house music, creating a distinctive sound that helped shape the Afro-house genre. Their breakthrough came with the single “Banane Mavoko,” followed by the debut album "Talking to the Drums" in 2011. Subsequent releases, including "Aquarian Drums," "Fortune Teller," "Ya Badimo," "Moya Wa Taola," and "The Healers: The Last Chapter," expanded their influence across Africa and internationally. In 2022, Mohosana departed to pursue a solo career as Mörda, and producer Kabelo Koma joined the group. Black Motion has received multiple South African Music Awards, including Best Dance Album honors. Renowned for energetic live performances and percussion-driven productions, the collective remains a leading force in contemporary African electronic music.
