BioCombining local and pop music traditions, Black Star Musical Club produced some of East Africa's most exciting dance music. Formed in the northern coastal town of Tanga, the group helped the city to challenge the musical stronghold of the capital city, Dar Es Salaam. Black Star Musical Club has undergone numerous personnel changes since first getting together in the 1960s. Original vocalist Shakila left the group to sing with rival group, the Lucky Musical Star Club. Several bandmembers joined with musicians from Lucky Star Musical Club and Seif Selim Kisauji to form Bambloom Musical Youth (later renamed Babloom Modern Taarab) in 1990.
